State Age Pension (SAP) - Online Application

Explanatory Notes

A

Date of election to receive State Age Pension (SAP)

The State Age Pension will be effective as from January 2027.

A person may elect to receive the SAP as from the age of 60.

Early SAP

Where an applicant elects to receive his SAP before Pension Age, the amount of SAP payable shall be reduced by 0.5% for every month he receives the pension before his pension age.

Standard (full) SAP

The Standard (full) SAP is the amount payable if the applicant elects to receive his SAP at the prescribed Pension Age. The Standard SAP is currently Rs 15,555.

Late SAP from Pension Age up to age of 65

Where an applicant elects to receive his SAP after attaining Pension Age but before attaining the age of 65, the amount payable shall be increased by 0.5% for every month by which the pension is deferred.

Late SAP from Pension Age up to age of 70

Where an applicant elects to receive his SAP after attaining Pension Age up to age of 70, the amount payable shall be increased by 0.5% for every month by which the pension is deferred from Pension Age up to age of 65 and by an additional 0.75% for every month by which the pension is further deferred after attaining the age of 65 up to the age of 70.

Important

Applicants are advised to carefully consider the date from which they wish to receive the State Age Pension before submitting the application as the date elected is irrevocable.

Residence Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must have resided in Mauritius

Beneficiaries of Basic Invalidity Pension (BIP) and Basic Widows Pension (BWP)

Beneficiaries of BIP and BWP are informed that they will continue to receive their BIP/BWP at the same rate payable for Standard (full) SAP as long as they are eligible for such pensions.

Bank Details

If an applicant opts to credit his pension into a bank account, he should provide his own bank account details and ensure the bank account is active. Under no circumstances should a person provide the bank details of another person.

An applicant may also opt to credit his SAP into a Joint Account.

Where a person is not holder of a bank account, he may open a bank account and thereafter submit his application.

E

Post Office

Applicants who opt to cash their pension at Post Office must select the Post Office nearest to their residential address from the list provided in Part 6 of the application form.

F

Documents Verification

For Non-Citizens, Mauritian Citizens by Naturalisation and Joint Account Holders.

Applicants who fall under any of the above categories will be notified, once their applications have been processed, when they shall be required to call at the selected Social Security Office for document verification.

Applicants must bring the original documents required along with photocopies.
